Medics dashed to Shaun Ryder's aid after his face became severely swollen from mosquito bites during his stint on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! back in 2010.

The ITV jungle survival show proved quite the ordeal for the star, who also experienced a frightening moment during a Bushtucker Trial when a snake sank its teeth into the Happy Mondays frontman's hand.

Shaun - who came second to 36-year-old telly personality Stacey Solomon - told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: "I got really bad mosquito bites when I was in the jungle. My face swelled so much that medics had to come to my rescue.

"I also got badly bitten by a snake. But I survived."

The drama didn't stop there for Shaun, 63, who returned for I'm A Celebrity...South Africa in 2023. The all-stars edition brought back fan-favourite campmates to tackle stomach-churning trials once more.

Shaun - who underwent hip replacement surgery in summer 2019 - endured excruciating pain when his replacement hip dislocated while he slept, though he managed to sort it himself by popping the joint back into position. The Step On singer - who enlisted fellow campmate and former Royal Family butler Paul Burrell, 67, to help relocate his hip - recalled: "My hip came out.

"I was down on one of the low beds. And I dived out, forgetting where I was, and my hip just went boom.

"I screamed and woke the whole camp up. And I had to stick it back in straight away. It's a titanium hip. But it just comes out."

Shaun also had to endure the discomfort of mouth blisters. He shared: "A couple of my implanted teeth were sticking into the side of my mouth, too.

"So I had blisters every time I opened my mouth. They really did cause me a lot of hassle.

"I think my teeth went from the crystal meth and crack cocaine."

Despite the health hiccups, Shaun was thrilled to participate in I'm A Celebrity...South Africa. In 2023, he stated: "I wouldn't have swapped it for the world."
