Piers Morgan says 'you can take your job and shove it' as he discusses GMB exit

Piers Morgan left Good Morning Britain in 2021 after refusing to apologise for comments about Meghan Markle, and insists he has no regrets

Piers Morgan has declared he harbours no remorse about his departure from Good Morning Britain, nearly five years after walking away from the programme. Back in March 2021, the broadcaster announced his exit following controversy surrounding remarks he made about Meghan Markle.

The presenter has consistently expressed his scepticism regarding claims made by Prince Harry and Meghan concerning their experiences within the Royal Family, but voicing his unfiltered views on television and subsequently declining to issue an apology ultimately led to his dismissal.

After the couple's explosive sit-down with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Piers stated he didn't believe their account, including Meghan's revelation about experiencing suicidal thoughts.

Whilst debating the matter on ITV's Good Morning Britain, the 60-year-old became embroiled in a fiery exchange with colleague Alex Beresford, which culminated in him walking off set.

Whilst things seemed to calm down before the show concluded, Piers subsequently confirmed his exit from the programme, pointing to his unwillingness to apologise as the deciding factor, reports the Mirror.

Nearly half a decade on, the forthright journalist maintains he has no regrets about his choice. "It was one of the most sickening attacks on our Royal Family, a monarchy, that I have ever seen," he remarked about the couple's interview.

"I was not going to grovel and apologise to the people that perpetrated that attack. So I told them you can take your job and shove it where the tiaras don't shine."

Discussing his exit at the time, ITV released a statement saying: "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."

The broadcasting regulator Ofcom was inundated with more than 50,000 complaints regarding the episode, with many viewers claiming his remarks about mental health and suicide were damaging and deeply offensive. Nevertheless, ITV was exonerated by Ofcom in September of that year.

Looking back on what he called a "brutal" timetable, he told the publication: "I did it for five years getting up, and managed to negotiate my way to a 4.30/5am start by the end, but it is brutal.

"And then you do two-and-a-half or three years of live television, that takes all the adrenaline out and is really hard on the body, you get to midday and you're absolutely exhausted!".

After his departure, Piers launched his TalkTV programme Piers Morgan Uncensored, which ran from 2022 to 2024, before departing the broadcaster and transferring the show to YouTube.

From September 2025, a weekly compilation show featuring highlights from the YouTube episodes has been broadcast on Channel 5.

Furthermore, whilst he walked away from his position, he hasn't completely severed ties with ITV.

Earlier this year, he reunited with his former co-host Susanna Reid and Ed Balls on Good Morning Britain to talk about an interview he conducted with US President Donald Trump.

Most recently, he has featured as a pundit on This Morning, offering his views on topical issues.
