Just months after announcing her engagement, a Love Island star has made a heartbreaking pledge after she was diagnosed with cancer.

Love Island Australia's Lexy Thornberry has shared the heartbreaking news that she has been diagnosed with head and neck cancer. The 24 year old reality star, who got engaged just a few months ago, took to Instagram to share her devastating news with her followers.

"I am 24 years old, and I have been diagnosed with cancer," she began her emotional post. "No, sadly I'm not joking. In the 2nd picture I posted above... I couldn't stop laughing that they put me in a robe for my X-ray - I thought it was so dramatic. A couple days later I was diagnosed with head and neck cancer."

Lexy, who is also a pilates instructor, assured her followers that she had always led a healthy lifestyle and there was nothing she could have done to prevent her diagnosis.

"I have always been a healthy person, and was an athlete my entire life. I'm a pilates instructor and I teach people how to live healthy lives. There's nothing I did wrong and nothing that could have prevented it. It's just the luck of the draw."

She vowed to fight the disease and revealed that she was about to start treatment. "I am starting treatment and ask people to respect my privacy during this extremely difficult time. This is all I'm willing to share at the moment and ask everybody to keep their questions to themselves," she concluded.

"The day I was diagnosed I made Dave swear that he would continue to fight and that this will not take over our lives together.", reports the Daily Star.

Her statement concluded with: "Dave will be fighting on December 13 and I am so proud of him. He will be fighting for me, and I'll be fighting right beside him. Like I said, it will be such a memorable night."

Amongst the collection of photographs Lexy posted was one showing herself positioned before a mirror adorned with post-it notes bearing her aspirations. One message declared: "I will beat cancer in 2026 and get married to Dave."

Supporters poured into the comments beneath her post to share encouraging words, including fellow Love Island contestants. Former islander Jessica Losurdo wrote: "Praying for you Lexy. Thinking of you."

Emily Ward also commented: "You have GOT this Lexy. You're going to kick it's a**. Wishing you all of the strength in the world for this journey."
