Jeremy Clarkson says health drug is 'eating my muscles' after side effects

The former Top Gear presenter lost three stone in six months using the weight loss drug but has now 'plateaued'

Jeremy Clarkson has made a candid revelation about his health, stating that his medication is "eating" his muscles, but confessing he's not prepared to take the necessary steps to "counteract this". The former Top Gear presenter's admission emerged in a recent column where he discussed an "actual car", specifically the new Mercedes-AMG CLE Coupé.

In his introductory comments, Clarkson chose to address the New Year and our collective inability to adhere to our resolutions, including the aspiration for "living clean", a lifestyle choice he deems "simply isn't worth the effort".

Clarkson also mentioned his use of the weight loss injection Mounjaro and how he "absolutely must" undertake a task - often linked with New Year's resolutions - to "counteract" a particular side effect.

He penned in The Times: "The human being is a flawed design. We have the intellectual capacity to work out what is good for us, but most of us can't be bothered to do anything about it."

Clarkson added: "Science and painstaking research recently determined that Mounjaro is eating my muscles and that to counteract this I absolutely must do weights in the gym", reports the Mirror.

"So what am I going to do about that? Come off Mounjaro probably. I really can't abide being out of breath."

Administered as an injection, Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) is a weight loss drug that can help manage a patient's appetite by making them feel full and slowing down the rate at which their stomach empties, according to the NHS.

Clarkson allegedly shed three stone in just six months through his use of the increasingly popular treatment, though he also disclosed that he believes he has now "plateaued".

Speaking to The Sun newspaper's Sun Club, Clarkson described the medication as "astonishing". He said: "The shoes I was wearing last year are falling off me as I'm walking around. I think I might be the first person in the world to lose weight on my feet.

"I've plateaued now. I'm still on it, but not losing any more weight - but nor am I putting any on, because it keeps my appetite level down. It really is an astonishing drug."

Online pharmacy Chemist4U states that the weight people shed whilst taking Mounjaro isn't purely fat. It highlighted research suggesting that as much as one-third of the loss consists of "non-fat mass" or "muscle and bone mass (lean mass)".

Discussing his Mounjaro usage further with The Sun, Clarkson also mentioned that he hasn't experienced many typical side effects, though his girlfriend, Lisa Hogan, apparently noticed he'd become somewhat more irritable.

He said: "Constipation? No, I don't have that. Diminished libido? I'm 65 - it's hard to know what's causing that", adding that he's "just a little bit duller and not quite as sharp".
