I'm A Celeb's Angry Ginge's mum defends sweets scandal

Angry Ginge's mother Michelle appeared on Good Morning Britain to discuss her son's I'm A Celebrity journey

The mum of Angry Ginge has spoken out about the I'm A Celebrity sweets controversy that's gripped viewers.

The online star is currently battling his phobias in the Australian bush and has swiftly emerged as a viewers' favourite to claim victory in the ITV programme.

Michelle, Ginge's mother, joined forces with Juliette, Tom Read Wilson's mum, on ITV's Good Morning Britain this Thursday (December 4). The duo chatted with presenters Charlotte Hawkins and Ed Balls about how their lads are faring Down Under.

Throughout the chat, Michelle weighed in on the programme's latest confectionery controversy, which saw Ginge, Kelly Brook and Aitch pinch additional milk bottles following their triumph in a task.

Upon becoming the fourth star to depart the encampment on Tuesday (November 2), Kelly disclosed there were "more than ten milk bottles", before swiftly heading for the exit, reports the Express.

Ginge and Aitch subsequently bent the truth, claiming they'd only nabbed one bonus sweet each, when they'd actually scoffed three apiece.

Offering her take on the debacle, Michelle remarked: "It could have been worse, they could have eaten them all and just brought the letter back!

"That's just Morgan, I think all three of them together were egging each other on to do it, as well, so you can't just blame him. But it was funny."

Throughout recent broadcasts, Ginge has voiced his irritation with fellow contestants regarding the mountain of washing up he's been lumbered with. He was consequently thrilled to switch duties on Wednesday (December 3) evening.

"Washing up gate. He doesn't like washing up, but he'll just do it. I think he was just a little bit annoyed with how many [utensils] they were actually using when it was unnecessary. And when they started to use the cups on purpose to put the rice in, that really wound him up," Michelle explained.

She added: "He's doing really good. He's doing amazing, I'm really proud of him. The challenges he's done, he's done well in all of them. He's really tried and put his heart into it, so I'm really pleased.

"He's always been competitive and emotional, it's just a different side to when he's streaming. Him being who he is in the jungle is actually showing himself, rather than who he is on the camera."

Comedian Ruby Wax became the latest celebrity to depart the jungle last night after securing the fewest votes from viewers.

Ruby's journey on the programme concluded after finding herself in the bottom two with Emmerdale actress Lisa Riley. Moments before her departure, the star received an outpouring of support from her fellow campmates, who were stunned and saddened by her elimination.

In her exit chat, Ruby revealed she'd managed to "totally forget" the outside world, describing her campmates as her "family".

I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! airs at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
