Damson Idris has spoken out about the rumours linking him to the coveted role of James Bond.

The F1 actor is amongst the high-profile names being touted to succeed Daniel Craig as 007, with the legendary spy franchise set to return to cinemas courtesy of Amazon MGM Studios.

However, the 34-year-old star has firmly denied he's being considered for the iconic part. Speaking at the Golden Globe Awards, Idris told E! News: "It's definitely not true, it's just a rumor.

"All these roles are superb and I think it's a testament to a young artist to be given that compliment. There's been many artists before me - Idris Elba, my big brother, and many artists today.

"So I think it's just a testament saying that we're doing a good job and have people see us."

Tom Holland is another name that's been thrown into the mix for the sought-after role.

However, it's emerged that his Marvel commitments have reportedly prevented him from pursuing projects that might clash with his starring turn in the latest Spider-Man films.

Chatting to celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay on YouTube, Tom commented on the speculation: "Listen, there's speculation at the moment. We'll keep it to a minimum for now. We'll get there one day."

The Hell's Kitchen presenter then pushed Tom further on the matter, asking: "Can you imagine what's going to happen to your life if you do? First of all, you'd love that opportunity, right?"

Tom responded: "I mean every young British actor, it's the pinnacle of working in our industry. I already consider myself to be the luckiest kid alive. I could not have dreamed to have the career that I have."

The highly anticipated 26th Bond instalment, helmed by acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve, is scheduled to begin filming at Pinewood Studios in the UK this April. The screenplay, penned by Peaky Blinders mastermind Steven Knight, will reportedly explore the dangers presented by artificial intelligence (AI).

This latest chapter signals a fresh direction for the beloved franchise following Craig's departure from the role and Amazon MGM's takeover of creative responsibilities from veteran producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson earlier this year.

However, Villeneuve has pledged to maintain respect for the legendary spy's heritage when his appointment as director was confirmed.

The 58 year old director reflected: "Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery.

"To me, he's sacred territory. I intend to honour the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come."
