With only days remaining until its debut, here's everything we know about The Rip, from its remarkable ensemble to the storyline, reports the Mirror.
The Rip plot, cast and release date
Directed by Joe Carnahan (The Grey), The Rip is a thriller set in Miami following a team of police officers who stumble upon a discovery at a stash house. When those present clash over their next move, news spreads beyond their circle and they face an unthinkable choice.
The film's synopsis states: "Upon discovering millions in cash in a derelict stash house, trust among a team of Miami cops begins to fray. As outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything is called into question -- including who they can rely on."
The film sees Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, frequent co-stars and pals, stepping into the shoes of Detective Sergeant JD Byrne and Lieutenant Dane Dumars, respectively. Affleck and Damon are no strangers to sharing the screen, with their joint credits including Good Will Hunting, Dogma, The Last Duel, and Air.
Steven Yeun also joins the cast as Detective Mike Ro. Known for his role as Glenn in The Walking Dead, Yeun has also starred in critically acclaimed films like Burning and Nope. He lends his voice to the titular character in Prime Video's animated series Invincible and appeared in the first season of Netflix's Beef.
Rounding out the cast is Teyana Taylor, who takes on the role of Miami officer Detective Numa Baptiste. Starting her career as a singer and dancer, Taylor shot to global fame with her portrayal of Perfidia Beverly Hills in Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another, a performance that bagged her the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Lastly, Sasha Calle takes on the role of Desi. Known for her portrayal of Supergirl in the 2023 smash hit The Flash, Calle also graced our screens in the beloved soap opera The Young and the Restless from 2018 to 2021.
Excited Netflix subscribers are in luck as The Rip will be ready to stream from this Friday, January 16. Netflix typically releases new content just after midnight PST (Pacific Standard Time) in the United States and 3am EST (Eastern Standard Time).
