BBC Strictly star says cancer diagnosis 'could have been a different picture'

Dr Punam Krishan returned to BBC Morning Live on Friday to update viewers after she shared the news of her breast cancer diagnosis earlier this week

Dr Punam Krishan made her return to BBC Morning Live on Friday, providing viewers with an update following her recent breast cancer diagnosis announcement.

Appearing alongside presenters Gethin Jones and Michelle Ackerley, who herself was back on screen 12 weeks after welcoming her daughter Nala, Punam discussed her decision to go public with the news.

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant explained that she had revealed her diagnosis on Instagram earlier in the week, hoping her experience might offer support to others facing similar circumstances.

During the interview, she revealed it was her "instinct" that prompted her to seek medical advice, with her doctor later telling her things "could have been a different picture" had she waited another six months, reports Wales Online.

Speaking candidly about her health journey, she reassured viewers: "I don't want anyone worrying, I'm through my treatment, I'm ok. I'm well, I'm healing. Five months ago I heard the words nobody ever wants to hear. I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I think in that moment there's the shock, the trauma, the fear. In a second your life and the reality as you know it changes."

"I've been a doctor for over 20 years. Unfortunately I've had to at times tell patients bad news," she continued, "but nothing prepares you to receive that news."
